The position of the Mirogoj area within the city of Zagreb is exceptional. This is a field of great intensity, and special significance, as follows primarily from the relationship of space and the walls of Mirogoj. Part of this important space is the base, frame and sight to the panorama of the graveyard walls, and then an introduction to the space behind the walls.
The Cemetery wall separates the real and metaphorical spaces of burial and death from the vitality of urban areas. The wall is a clear division of two opposite meanings with their own atmosphere, climate and form. The park and square in front of the walls of Mirogoj become an access and departure space, with a part of it used as Ceremonial Square. The most important idea of this urban space is the specific meaning of life and vitality, which are its most important topological and conceptual characteristics.
