The idea is simple: starting from a longitudinal slab containing all the different uses, we moved some of them up/down, thus creating several voids or “patios”. So, starting from simplicity we have created a fair more complex organization were the patios play a defining role, which was to create a sequence of different environments and to give independence to each “box” or building phase of the house. It is also a typical element within Latin-American architecture for the patio provides shelter, shadow, micro climate and becomes a crucial social gathering point.
The proposal was to design a country-beach house that could bring the enjoyment and intimacy of vacation/resort by designing inner and outer spaces with different characteristics. The main corridor is positioned in the middle connecting all the “boxes”. Each one of these “boxes” are treated with different design solutions like: height according to the function, materials (like the 3FORM to bridge the outer and the inner space) and the openings varying according to the views, sun and cross ventilation essentials. Another important point is the privacy and independence that allows these schematic disposition of functional boxes for they can act as a whole, as well as independent bodies.
